NSPCC: Melissa's Story

  • Hattie Newman

Hattie adapts Melissa's story into a sensitive, stop-motion animated film for the NSPCC.

Hattie worked with agency, Lovers to tell Melissa's story from the perspective of her grandparents.
The piece takes its visual cue from the play therapy that helped her to overcome her experiences –  paint, mud, food, toys, crayons and a sand pit were all used to tell the story.

Heartbreaking and illuminating, the film highlights the important work that the NSPCC does in helping families support young victims of neglect. ‘Melissa’s Story’ is being used as part of the NSPCC’s ‘It’s Time’ campaign, which asks government to ensure that every child who has been abused receives the support they need to rebuild their lives.
