Orpheus & Midas

  • Nath Day

Orpheus & Midas embeds references to Greek mythology into its visual structure to reinforce the album’s narrative of the UK’s political landscape. The imagery itself depicts two Greek legends - Orpheus, who was considered the best musician and poet of all, and Midas who was famed for his ability to turn everything he touched into gold, including his daughter. Midas symbolises the greed of the Conservative party, whilst Orpheus marks out the band’s anti-establishment leaning and alludes to themes of class and political divide. The shapes of the band's logo, based on the Greek alphabet for the initials JD, were also repurposed in a more abstract form, and the typeface used was influenced by Greek lettering.
