Painted ladies: An exchange of ideas

  • Rafailia Thiraiou

Painted Ladies was a display of 20th-century paintings depicting women painted by both female and male artists including Emma Bolland, Dorette Outlaw, and Alfred Egerton Cooper. Many of the works on display have not been shown for many years. The exhibition invited visitors to think about the ways that female and male artists have represented women in art. The exhibition also invited visitors to consider the Victorian collection in the Gallery and observe how the representation of women may have changed since the Victorian era. This exhibition was a collaboration between Wolverhampton Art Gallery and the University of Birmingham, curated by Rafailia Thiraiou, MA student in Art History and Curating.
