Through my recent projects, I have mastered multitasking and fast-paced working environments but most importantly the value of collaborative practices, and solidarity within institutions and among creatives.
My recent curatorial projects include Diaphonics- Andrius Arutiunian (2023), Eastern Incantations, Experimental Music Festival (2023), and Heterotopias in The Turbulence Zone (2023) at Centrala, in Birmingham. I initiated and led the online project Orbiting the Glitch, at NewArtCity, (2021) and Mutant Materialities (2022) at Asylum Art Gallery and I have been part of many projects during my academic life.
Projects
- DiaphonicsDiaphonics, the first solo exhibition of Andrius Arutiunian in the UK. The show borrows its title from a musical term indicating both a doctrine of refracted sound and diaphony – “a parallel search of voices”, a form of harmony where voices move in parallel motion. The exhibition departs from Arutiunian’s research on vernacular knowledge, political peripheries and mysticism.
- Collage of MemoriesA collage of memories is an exhibition based on revisiting memories during lockdown. I found myself looking at photographs of my home, the sea which I sincerely missed, my friends, moments of fun and creativity repeatedly. During this time, I spend a great deal of self-reflecting and thinking of all those things that made me happy. - Painted ladies: An exchange of ideasPainted Ladies was a display of 20th-century paintings depicting women painted by both female and male artists including Emma Bolland, Dorette Outlaw, and Alfred Egerton Cooper. Many of the works on display have not been shown for many years. The exhibition invited visitors to think about the ways that female and male artists have represented women in art.
