Pat's Story

I’ve got a job! It’s structured. I’m like everybody else now. It’s back to years ago and it’s really nice actually. I’m ready to further my career and I’m enjoying it.
I am Site Supervisor in the Fabrication Division of the London Crossrail project. I supervise about 10 guys, and we are doing the ticket hall cladding - some of the nice shiny stuff that you never notice when you pass!
I’m really enjoying it and I’m glad to be back in that world again. It’s fun, there’s always something to laugh about and the camaraderie is great. There is a serious side as well; getting the job done, paperwork and computer work.
My family are really proud of me. I’m over 2 years sober now and a lot of people are really happy for me. I’m off benefits, I’m making my own money and paying my own way. It’s huge.
Beam just kickstarted me again and gave me the impetus to keep moving forward. You raised the money so quickly, then I did the courses and suddenly I ended up with a job. Things really fell into place for me. Without Beam I wouldn’t be in work now. Even now I feel supported and I just want to give back.
All I can say to my supporters is you have changed my life. By giving money to Beam, I don’t think you realise how important it is. You are changing lives in months. My life has changed so quickly - I just want to say thank you.
