Pendoring Integrated Campaign

  • Kelly Paterson

This project was done for the Pendoring Advertising Awards, and it was considered as one of the finalist projects. Originally created in 1995 to promote and stimulate the use of Afrikaans in advertising, the Pendoring has gone through a number of changes to celebrate all of South Africa's indigenous languages. After discovering that Sign is an official language in South Africa, our idea was to promote the learning of it. We believe that if more of us knew basic Sign, we could help to make the difficulties that people with impaired hearing are challenged with a bit easier through communication and the opportunity to hire them. We came up with an integrated campaign with the call to action being "Don't talk act", and communicated this through four of South Africa's official languages; Xhosa, Zulu, Afrikaans and English. In addition to the posters, we generated a QR code that lead the user to a website with information on sign language and statistics on the hard of hearing in South Africa, and what can be done to help them.
