Penguin Adult Fiction / Book Cover Design

  • Lizzy Davis
This brief was commissioned by Penguin for their annual Adult Fiction cover student design award. The designer (myself) is tasked with creating a book cover for the much-loved for over 6o years ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ by Harper Lee.
My final, is an embroidered typographic piece that I made and photographed. The medium mainly represents the politics of the deep south during the 1930s - equality, societal scorn, etc. But the colours, typeface, and shapes also convey the wistful idealism of a child who is growing, and coming to terms with accepting the world around her.
