Physical Metadata

  • Marina Melikian
Metadata is predominantly known as digital data about data, such as file type, when and how it was created and other technical information. The idea of this piece is to re-imagine metadata in a physical form. The installation presents an extraction of metadata from the tangible components of an obsolete technology. The numbers on the surface of the circuit board are translated through an algorithm into a 3 dimensional object. The TV displays a scan of its internal parts taken from the identical monitor deconstructed beneath. The work presents an object in suspense between the old and new, its presence in a loop between both the physical and digital.
This piece was presented at the Degree Show 2: Design at Central Saint Martins.
