About me
I'm Marina. Currently studying Graphic Communication Design at Central Saint Martins, specializing in Design & Interaction. I am an inter-disciplinary graphic designer. My work is mostly based around editorial design, installation, photography, and print and it is driven by experimentation, research, and conceptual thinking. My main area of interest at the moment is the line between the digital and analog mediums, the transition between the physical and screen-based and human-technology interactions.
Projects
  • Flowers on film
Flowers on filmSelf - initiated ongoing project based around experimental film photography. Shot on Zenit E.
  • Physical Metadata
Physical MetadataMetadata is predominantly known as digital data about data, such as file type, when and how it was created and other technical information. The idea of this piece is to re-imagine metadata in a physical form. The installation presents an extraction of metadata from the tangible components of an obsolete technology. The numbers on the surface of the circuit board are translated through an algorithm into a 3 dimensional object. The TV displays a scan of its internal parts taken from the identical monitor deconstructed beneath. The work presents an object in suspense between the old and new, its presence in a loop between both the physical and digital. This piece was presented at the Degree Show 2: Design at Central Saint Martins.
  • Site Specific Type
Site Specific TypeA Site Specific Type is a typeface derived from a concept of combining analogue and digital mediums in order to obtain hybrid forms of letters and typographic symbols.
  • Loud Virtual Presence
Loud Virtual PresenceConverting tactile sounds into tactile experience. The sounds of tapping and scrolling through the phone are amplified through the bass shaker. The amplification of those tactile sounds demonstrates the nature of our contact with technological devices.
  • Fahrenheit 451
Fahrenheit 451Fahrenheit 451’s story is based in a dystopian world where the firemen are supposed to burn books instead of setting out fire. Every piece of literature/text is banned, and those who possess books are reported and put in jail. In the film by François Truffautt, which is based on the book, you can see the main character Montag reading a newspaper in a few scenes. The paper completely consists of pictures, which replace the text to tell the story. This project is based around the idea of imagining how “Fahrenheit 451” would look like in that dystopian world. How do you tell a story through pictures? Is it possible to disguise text in the book? The full length of the hand made book, counting both sides, is 27 metres long.
