Plantaphilia is a collaborative self-directed project with artist Paula Turmina where we experiment with analogue films to explore human relationships with the emotions of non-humans. The essence of this ongoing project has been stimulated by research on historical theories of the healing powers of plants, in the fields of medicine and aesthetics. Our first piece looks at a selection of sixteen plants that inhabit Kew Gardens, London. The outcome is a series of individual videos, each one investigating one species, for which feelings and emotions are interpreted through human intuition in the form of colour, shape and sound.
