Brief: In 2017 Pottermore wanted to launch an online Wizarding World Book Club in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone on the 19th June 2017. Idea: The Book Club became a combination of a digital experience on the Pottermore website, and a weekly social campaign to engage fans to re-read and partake in discussions of chapter themes each week. We designed a custom hub on the web that interacted with user profiles, which allowed us to reward users for returning to take part (and other special days) by awarding collectable badges. We found this encouraged returns and drove excitement on our social feed. Each week new pages would go live with content around the chapter theme showing special curated content, and every Friday a debate was instigated on Twitter at @wwbookclub. Fans were encouraged to examine and debate the finer details of these themes shown on the weeks theme page. My role: Within the team I was responsible for the UI design of the theme homepage including drawing a selection of illustrations that were layered on page backgrounds. I then worked closely with the development team as design oversight of the full build experience. I also created design for assets for web and on-going content for social and email, including illustrated question cards and animated quote cards.
