I’m super excited to share a project today that was shot back in June and got published by Mindly.Journal.
I’ve developed this concept after having a conversation with non-binary trans performance artist Orion aka Creature Cramps who wear their binders visibly under see-through garments.
It’s as much a story about a person’s wellbeing as it is about non-binary garments and putting them together.
Binders carry so much power as they contribute so much to a person’s identity and safety, yet this is an item which is always hidden. With this series we proudly want to showcase them. They need to be made visible as an item of liberation, of the power we have when we make the decision to be ourselves.
We used a mix of used binders to raise awareness of the very personal and painful stories behind these 'second hand' items, but also of different self-made and designed binders to show the creativity which is needed at times in order to be able to feel comfortable within your own body.
They are also a reminder that for some people simply leaving the house into this constructed world on some days is a success that takes a lot of effort. Well done you! You are a warrior, you are majesty, you are sexy, you are proud. We are proud of you!
