Inspired by a series of patient portraits from a London Victorian lunatic asylum, the collection has a dark origin. The portraits provide a moving and emotional account of people living through extremely difficult circumstances, capturing key moments in their lives. Families and children who survived The Great Depression in America, 1929, were also a key source of inspiration.
A palette of bold pinks and heavy burgundies provide a backdrop for flashes of sharp acid yellows and deep ocean blues. Soft tulle is a significant fabric, used throughout the collection in an array of shades, it provides an ethereal aesthetic and adds an innocence and naivety to the clothes.
The collection incorporates key details of Victorian clothing; collars are ruffled and sit high obstructing the face, dresses boast vast billowing sleeves, followed by large full skirts.
