Pretty in PUNK: Hair Editorial

Commissioned by Award-winning hair studio- MG Atelier, YEMIOYATO collaborated with the hair mogul to conceptualised and photograph the editorial collection titled ‘Pretty in Punk’ - a play on the word, inspired by the 80s Punk era with reference to the 80s film ‘Pretty in Pink’. We created the ‘Pretty in Punk’ editorial collection to celebrate and reimagine how the colour pink is perceived. Traditionally, the colour pink is symbolic of softness, femininity, Barbie and all things sweet. Yet our artful interpretation of pink is a bold statement that seeks to create an unconventional edge. The collection consists of hairstyling techniques that are used for Afro hair, such braiding, weaving, wigs and natural styling that showcase the versatility of Afro hairstyling.
