Alison Branagan is an author and visual arts consultant and an associate lecturer at Central Saint Martins. 
Over the last decade she has written several business start-up and enterprise books and has studied different approaches to teaching business theory and enterprise skills. She has also devised and facilitated upon many enterprise projects for universities and business support organisations. Entrepreneurship for Creatives Summer School is one such course at Central Saint Martins. 
She has a Masters degree in Applied Art and Visual Culture, is an Associate of the Institute of Consulting, a Member of the Society of Authors and Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. She is also an associate of The Design Trust and has recently been a mentor for the Craft's Council Hothouse Programme.

Money Matters & the Art of Negotiation

Monday 8th October 10am – 12.30 and 1.30 to 4pm
In this workshop we will explore how to set up as an artist, sculptor, maker, designer, illustrator or photographer. We will also outline how to obtain payment via traditional invoicing, taking payments online or using mobile apps and readers. The exciting topic of how profits are taxed, what you can claim as expenses and making the tax system work for you will be explained. You may find for instance you don't need to be registered as self-employed.
We will also explore pricing or charging fees in relation to understanding how to negotiate a commission, charging for workshops and selling work. We will explore the principles and tactics of negotiation and mind map seven crucial interrelated areas of thought, including time, money, resources, copyright, risk, power, credit and goodwill. In order to improve your sales, profits and precious use of time and resources.

How to Plan Marketing Campaign & Essential Presentation Skills

Monday 22nd October 10am – 12.30 and 1.30 to 4pm
This workshop covers key aspects of running an in print and online media campaign and is suitable for artists, designers, makers or photographers new to the subject and for those who feel they need a bit of an update. We will also explore contemporary marketing, how to attract attention and plan a successful publicity campaign for an exhibition, fair or event.
The day also includes an insightful presentation skills workshop which is for anyone who wishes to improve their ability to present themselves in regard to gaining commissions or makings sales. We will explore key themes regarding presenting in person, such as gaining confidence, overcoming nerves and building a sense of presence.
