This is a redesign of an existing book cover. I thought the original had potential in its concept, but really underdelivered on the outcome. I wanted to use this project to showcase some more of my penwork, and my enjoyment of analogue techniques. The words punk monk were hand-rendered using an pentel parallel pen for the blackletter, and a homemade ruling pen for the word punk. I used these two distinct typographic styles as they represented the words very well, and differ strikingly from each other. One is calculated and precise, the other messy and random. The overlapping grid and restrained colour scheme help to reinforce a contemporary theme, without which it would be quite traditional and boring.
