Quaranzine Issue 2 - 'Before'

  • Hannah Edwards

'Before' is an original poem I wrote for Quaranzine as a social commentary on London life before and during Covid-19. The accompanying photograph was taken by Christopher Dickens.

Before
People stuffed themselves onto tubes
like an army, a fleet
They ran to the pubs after work
spilling onto the street
Before
People would hit the gym every day
fighting for classes
Waitlist spot just opened up –
thank God I was the fastest!
Before
People would be slow to reach out,
respond or message back
Sorry for the delay, they’d say
I’ve been so busy, slammed
Now
Our lives have been changed forever,
our freedom is no more
People just wish things could go
back to how they were
Before
