R.E.B.E.L Short Film

  • Dominic Hamilton

R.E.B.E.L. a film project by hip-hop dance company Boy Blue, is a rallying call for solidarity in action. Commissioned by Sky Arts, Art 50 and Co-funded by the Barbican, it both features and was created with young dancers from London who weren’t able to vote in the EU referendum. The work responds to challenging questions around cultural identity, what it means to belong to a community, how we deal with our feelings of powerlessness and how we move forward within our fractured and polarized country. By capturing their voices, opinions, hopes and fears R.E.B.E.L, a powerful piece of work, aims to fuel the rebels of the future. This performance-based, episodic and site-specific film incorporates music, dance and performance poetry around the notion of Britishness. R.E.B.E.L is directed by choreographer Kenrick 'H2O' Sandy MBE & musician Michael 'Mikey J' Asante. This film was broadcast on Sky Arts on 25th March 2019 and is available on Sky demand.
