Rat and Mouse is a small homeware business specialising in handcrafted candles and ornaments. The name "Rat and Mouse" draws inspiration from our London city heritage, utilising Cockney rhyming slang where "Rat and Mouse" means "House." This venture allowed me to explore and express creative talents in various aspects of the business. All creative direction and designed elements including the logo, social assets, brand identity and mock-ups were created by me. Rat and Mouse was not just a business endeavor but a creative journey that allowed me to combine my skills and passions. The story: At Rat and Mouse, my co-founder and I handled the hands-on creation of each product. Our offerings included: - Hand-Poured Candles: Each candle was meticulously crafted, ensuring the highest quality. Only soy and plant waxes were used and we hand selected scents inspired by the smoke and grit of London City. Think tonka bean, tobacco and palo santo. They were hand poured into female figurines, candlesticks and glass jars. - Ornaments: We used a combination of jesmonite for our structures and hand-rolled clay for more intricate designs like our knots. Working on Rat and Mouse provided an opportunity to engage in a variety of creative processes, from product photography, to brand identity and corresponding social visuals. Our USP was focused on quality, being handmade and our personal story of being 'two ladies in London' (our sign-off on most assets) and as a result wanted to create an aspirational visual identity for a young, successful urbanite in London. This moved into our marketing efforts which spanned multiple platforms, including social media and our Etsy storefront.
