Tackling Italy's vast array of regional cuisines was no mean feat. Many Italian food enthusiasts will tell you that often dishes will differ from village-to-village, never mind from region-to-region. This set of work involved large-scale, long-term content planning, extracting some of the key ingredients, dishes, and cooking techniques of each Italian region by conducting a huge amount of careful research into the culinary traditions of each one. This was also an exercise in curating existing content on the site by chefs, writers, and food bloggers, combing carefully through the site and identifying gaps in themes that needed filling. Some recipes were commissioned because they were big-hitters in the SEO world or were particularly well-loved by English-speaking audiences – what English language Italian food website would be complete without a penne arrabbiata or ragù alla bolognese? Other recipes were commissioned just because they seemed particularly delicious, ingenious, or just told the story of that region particularly well, as well as fulfilling other dish type criteria that we were looking to expand on the site. Features delved into the best producers and ingredients of each region, and offered in-depth, authoritative foodie guides for gourmands planning to visit Italy.
