Rhythm of the Past

  • david ian bickley

In the early 90’s I was asked by RTÉ, the Irish state broadcaster, to have a look at producing a series of short films using archive dating from the 1930’s to the 1970’s. Some of this material was still wrapped up in unopened brown paper and had never been viewed. It was very moving and poignant to handle this precious footage and I knew I would need a suitably, sensitive soundtrack. To get the focus of the atmosphere right I decided to compose some of the music my self and also licence some from the Irish language vocal group Annuna. The archive was then edited to the tracks in themed groups — children, sailing, ploughing, wells etc. There are a selection of these video pieces available with the LP download.
