Roots in Water: Textile.

  • Fiona Fung
FLUIDITY + DANCE: The fluidity and movement of dancers in Pina Bausch’s “Rite of Spring” performance from the film PINA, expressed the transformation of an organism’s mobility from earth to water.
CONTAINMENT: Katerina Jebb’s photographs of women on industrial photocopiers represented a contrast to Bausch’s dancers, by showing the containment of an organic subject.
EXPERIMENT: Taking dried roots and herbal plants, and submerging them into various water vase shapes, photographs were taken to document this fluidity in containment. A doll was wrapped in various fabric shapes and placed in different positions on a scanner. Textile and silhouette developments were derived and designed from the two experiments to form this collection.
