On one level these publications are a joke – it’s ridiculous that people spend so much time and money turning their odd obsessions into real print magazines...
But there’s something more serious going on here too – when we featured The South London Review of Hand Dryers on the Stack podcast I was struck by the fact that editor Wedgeley Snipes (not his real name) genuinely loves hand dryers.
And similarly, illustrator Ian Moore fell into publishing An Illustrated Guide to Trip Advisor Reviews to exorcise some of the demons that had gathered during eight years working in the hospitality industry. This is publishing as therapy, community and experimentation.
At least I think it is. Come along to this Stack Live night to hear from the magazine makers in their own words – we’ve got the people behind four of the most surprising and singular titles we’ve seen so far this year, and they’re going to be speaking about why they do what they do, and how they make it all work.
Tickets cost £6, head this way to RSVP!
