Ryoji Ikeda Posters - 2017

  • Rory Farrell
Theses posters are a final piece for a college progect. Ryoji Ikeda is an ‘audiovisual’ artist who’s work is based on heavily electronic sound, represented visually with large, animated installations that have an accompanying electronic/digital aesthetic. In this project I produced posters for a season of events showcasing Ikeda’s installations. The project parameters was that the posters had to all be different, but of the same set; they must include all the same information, but one event is to be differentiated from the others; the complete set of posters must represent all of the four events in this way.
I slightly modified an open - source Java script that I found online whilst researching for this project. The script extrudes an image's pixels in 3D based on their Brightness; lighter pixels extrude further than darker ones. The processed 3D image must have be rotated somewhat to be able to see the protrusion of the pixels, which is why each of the posters appears at an odd angle.
