SHHHH Clothing

An ethical streetwear brand and artist collective that created opportunities for young emerging creatives. Problem - It’s 2008, I'm 18 and studying art and design at college. My friends and were obsessed with street art, streetwear, and street culture. We were making art, designing graphics, learning to DJ, making skate films, and developing our styles. At the time there was nothing to channel and broadcast what we were doing outside of our sleepy seaside town to the wider world. We needed a platform that would unify and share our creations with a wider audience. Solution - I founded SHHHH. A lifestyle brand and artist collective that existed to help emerging artists come together, collaborate and gain exposure together through group exhibitions, clothing collections, parties and projects. SHHHH was originally what I used as my own artist tag (my initials) but this soon become the identity for a group of us known as The SHHHH Collective. Results - I pitched at a local ‘Dragons Den’ style event and won a start-up grant to get the ball rolling. I then focussed on the clothing collections and getting the product into stores. I started working as a retail assistant in one of Norwich’s most prestigious menswear stores ‘Dogfish’ They soon became a stockist of SHHHH and our clothing sat proudly alongside the brands that inspired us at the start in the first place. Brands such as OBEY, Stussy, Carhartt and Nudie Jeans. We took the product to tradeshows in London where we picked up more national stockists. We grew a 20k following on social media and over the years continued to support and collaborate with many young creatives through various mediums, products, and events. Today SHHHH is a household name now better known for our city guides which organically grew out of this first chapter. www.shhhh.co.uk
