Where Are The Women? And Why Should Men Care? We use this edition of Shiny to look at women in the commercial video industry. The panel will be led by the audience asking questions. So it's up you! As a starter and a help, we hope you'll ask some of these gnarly questions: What does the female director landscape look like in the commercial video industry? Are women directors getting commissioned more often and what level of the industry? How many female big hitters are there, compared to men? How many new female directors are entering the industry at the lower and mid-points? What are the reasons for gender disparity in commissioning, and what needs to be done about it? Music videos, one of the easiest entry points in the industry, are still mostly directed by men. Why? What are the responsibilities of production companies, agencies and brands in creating gender equality? Quotas vs “Commissioning the best director for the job”. Does ‘female’ commissioning exist - eg home/ beauty/ children/ periods? Is it a help or a trap? What support is currently out there for emerging female directors? How can we support new emerging female directors to stay in the industry? Is it worth banding together with other women/ activist groups? How does choosing to have a family affect a female director’s career? !! PLUS WE'RE ISSUING A CHALLENGE TO FEMALE DIRECTORS !! As usual, the screening reel for this event will be the latest heat for submissions to next year’s Shiny Awards. Let’s try and have at least 50% of the work directed by women Enter videos here: https://www.shinyawards.com/enter-and-attend/#1 Buy event tickets here: https://www.shinyawards.com/enter-and-attend/#3 60 Great Portland Street London W1W 7RT 18.30 .
