HEREKE CARPETS ARE PRODUCED ONLY IN HEREKE, A COASTAL TOWN 60 KM AWAY TO ISTANBUL İN TURKIYE.

Hereke carpets are produced only in Hereke, a coastal town 60 km away to Istanbul in Turkey.

The materials used are a mixture of silk, wool and cotton, and sometimes gold and silver threads. Dolmabahce in the palace the Ottoman Sultans would present the Hereke carpets to the elite royal members, aristocracy and statesmen who came to the visit. Hereke carpets are very large typical palace-sized carpets, and they are made of wool on cotton, camel hair on cotton, silk on cotton and silk on silk with very small knots.
