Now, as a Health Coach on Maui, specializing in people who want to spend more time on the water, in the right way, it's my responsibility, or kuleana, as they say in Hawaiian, to talk about these cold, hard, surf truths in the right way, with the right feeling, to the right people, at the right time. Ten years later, is the right time. My heart's in the right place. I'm really stoked to be a part of the evolving field of health coaching, and I find behavior science hilarious and fascinating.
Life changes and I ended up taking a good, solid ocean break. By break I mean, still going in the ocean 2-4x's/month). I got to know the greener side of Hawaii. The forest. Fresh skin and ready to go, only to land an amazing job as a private swim instructor where I'm in the pool 20-30 hours/week and make it a priority to surf twice a week.
Which brings me around to the topic of this post. Salt water, chlorine (wave pools), wind and sun all take their toll on our skin and hair. It took me a year after teaching swim lessons to order special skin and hair products made for water people, I'm a slow learner.
I haven't used anything like this since I was a kid on swim team (when my hair turned green) so I went with a trusted brand in the swim community, TYR. I'll let you know what I think after I've used it for a couple months.
🌀The point is, how do you care for your skin and hair after coming out of the water?
🌀What are some things you've experienced regarding the effects of the elements on your skin and hair?
Some other skin/hair care habits that I feel help me are:
~ dry brushing
~ staying hydrated
~ rinsing off immediately, if possible
