As part of a university project, I was tasked to redesign the cover for my favorite book. I chose Haruki Murakami’s Sleep because it has always captivated me with its haunting and surreal imagery. Drawing inspiration from the following quote: “Then one night she wakes from a dream immobilized, and sees a gaunt old man in the shadows, he pours water on her feet,”. To create the cover design, I started with a printed sheet of paper with the word “sleep” repeated across it and a plastic sheet that I then carefully layered over it. I then poured water onto the plastic sheet. The dynamic texture created by the water stains in the artwork added depth and mystery to the cover, inviting the reader to delve into the unknown world of sleep and its incredible and mysterious phenomena. The uncluttered design and use of bold typography made the cover stand out and drew attention to the author of the book.
