Our first project in Sustainable Rural Development was exploring Land Art with artist Sarah Misselbrook. Considering concept, art in place, documentation and sustainable, degradable materials, all with a focus on nature.
After a brainstorm of words and interests thus far, we were drawn to a few specifics;
- Yoga Rock (a focal point in the finca)
- Body casting with natural materials (a crystal which grew in nearby rock)
- and the high sensory differences between where we all were before, in the UK, to the now in Riba-Roja... ...Here, was a place you could smell, hear, see, feel and taste different.
Yoga rock simulated a feeling, like a bird about to take flight. This inspired the idea of a collaborative bird wing sculpture to be placed at the top of the rock, the end of the trail. The viewer will follow the trail of cast body parts to the top of Yoga Rock, a place of liberty and free movement.
Highlighting focus words were imperfect, freedom and movement.
