The spectacle of theatre and putting on a performance has never been lost on the New York fashion heavyweights, from Rihanna riding around a pink sand Mountain for her Spring summer 2018 showing to Marc Jacobs literally harnessing the power of the sun for Fall 2013. This season, an even more ‘juicy’ prospect was in store for show-goers, with fruits of all varieties being utilised by designers Mansur Gavriel, Collina Strada, Oscar De La Renta, and Michael Kors. Although, they were used not just as props by the set designers, but as edible, and in effect sustainable, show gifts. This could be a nod to the self-care movement, where the considerate folk in fashionland are ensuring the editors who will be doing their write-ups have their daily dose of Vitamin C, or a nod to the lighter mood of the stateside fashion week, where the city seems more at ease with inclusivity, and assured in its political statements, enough to allow for a moment of playfulness and joy. In the words of Michael Kors, it’s all about “Positivity and optimism…blue skies ahead”
