Start Up Company Branding

  • Hajra Mubashar

A total brand kit for a start up handyman app service, providing quality assured tradesmen. The logo concept came from the idea of verification, or seals of approval, to represent the quality assurance. The design had to feel like a stamp, but I still wanted to get across the DIY nature of many of the handyman jobs, so I designed the lines surrounding the text with different weights, to feel like they’ve been constructed or that they’re being fixed together. I was inspired by images of carved out lettering, so I picked a typeface that felt like it had been chiselled out of a hard surface. I inserted white spaces into the letters to ‘craft’ them further, in keeping with both the premium craftsmanship themes and the rugged nature of the jobs. There are many handyman apps currently on the market, often employing vibrant 'RGB' colour schemes, and slick, flat vector graphics. To differentiate, I scanned G.F.smith paper and applied an overlay to create textured backgrounds. The final textures feel luxurious yet rough and less polished. The mostly neutral colours add to this workman feel.
