Strange New Habits

  • William Sheepskin

South Africa had some of the strictest lockdown regulations in the world during the height of its Covid19 response. I became interested in the manner in which people were reacting to our new way of living, and the subtle ways in which we interact with the world around us changed. Some of these strange new sights include hand sanitizer in the cigarette stands (due to a complete ban on tobacco products) and church sermon pamphlets shoved in the driver side car doors to continue remotely spreading scripture. I try to understand and represent things in a manner that is easy to understand but not too explicit in its message, and I thought simply presenting images of people in masks wouldn't do much to contribute to the discussion at large. I was fortunate enough to have this series picked up for publication by C41 Magazine, and encourage anyone that sees this to check out the write up as well as the rest of the work they put out as it is always thoughtfully curated and presented!
