Commercial Street, London

FormRoom were invited by Ted Baker to originate ideas and create designs based on an exciting brief for this unique concept store. This wonderland space puts the spotlight on “the wider world of Ted” by showcasing an expansive accessories line including bicycles, audio, jewellery, homeware, stationary and gifts alongside a selected range of clothing. The Commercial Street store, a stone's throw from Spitalfields market, also boasts a Ted's Grooming Room, Beauty Spot & Everbean coffee shop.
The scheme included both bespoke shop fit units and sculptural elements in the footwear, eyewear and watch departments. The ‘Wall of Frame’, an impactful installation of half-faced busts, formed a stunning display unit for Ted’s eyewear range. Customers interact with items by changing the glasses on each face, whilst motorized elements such as the mechanical cog, with attached mannequin legs, and conveyor belt transformed Ted’s footwear range into a 3D spectacle.
The Ted team developed the designs and we then further collaborated on materials and manufacture methods. Processes included joinery, metalwork, lighting, animatronics, upholstery, CNC laser cutting and vac forming. Formroom’s designers further developed details, working alongside trusted partners with different areas of expertise to achieve the end result. In constant communication with the client, we coordinated the scheme from research and development, through fabrication to installation.
