TEDx - Who doesn't love a TED talk?

  • Liz Robson

I had the pleasure of working with FIL International twice, delivering two of their TEDx talks. The first was held at BAFTA Piccadilly and the second at Kings Place. Each having 100 staff attend on site, a variety of different speakers with varied topics (although all relating to the main theme), a live scribe wall to establishing and implementing the technical requirements to be able to live stream the event to their global offices. Oh and acting as the show caller on the day!

I loved working on these events, especially mentoring the graduate team. With an exteremly short delivery timescale for the first event, this really took some focus, tight project management skills and pulling the team together to ensure the day was a success. So, alongside applying all the necessary PM skills, I worked closely with the team to ensure they understood the importance of applying all these techniques, how it was vital for tracking progress, establishing reporting templates to senior stakeholders and how, to pull a really successful event off, it takes a great team effort. Speakers make a TEDx event and it a credit to all of us that we had such varied and engaging speakers (even one from NASA talking about working across international space stations for the theme of Changing Mindsets).
After the first event, I was asked to organise a 2 day internal management conference - a testament to my delivery skillset and how well I can work within different teams.
