TEDxSydney is an annual flagship TEDx event that has become the leading platform and pipeline for the propagation of Australian ideas, creativity, innovation and culture to the rest of the world. The 2013 event was hosted throughout the iconic Sydney Opera House. As Head of Marketing at The Loop, I worked with the TEDxSydney events team to devise a partnership that would align with the TED ethos of 'Ideas worth sharing' and give The Loop community an opportunity to be involved in the inspirational event. We invited the community to share their big idea in a two-minute pitch, explicitly outlining the wishlist of what they would need to bring the idea to life. Four sets of people with four brilliant pitches were chosen by The Loop and curator Jess Scully to present on the day to the TEDx and Satellite Event audiences worldwide in the hope of generating publicity for their idea and making new connections with like-minded people. One of the pitches was for Work-Shop, which is a space for fun and affordable short courses in arts, crafts and life skills. This business launched shortly after TEDxSydney and has been a success story for the last 10 years with spaces in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
