The `Archimedes` Food Sharing Platter

  • Daniel Taylor

This sharing platter is a unique take on the traditional `lazy Susan` system frequently used on large tables. But whereas the lazy susan moves dishes in a purely circular way, the Archimedes' platter also spins the food in and out from the center of the table to the edges, making choosing dishes and sharing a meal across a large table quicker and easier. This is possible due to the use of the `trammel of Archimedes`, a simple system also known as the `do nothing machine`. This mechanism has been used to give the platter a unique and engaging elliptical movement. The platter is made of veneered Plywood with an ebonised Ash edge.
