The Arthur Brothers Visual identity and album covers

Creative direction, logo, identity and album covers for a London indie band The Arthur Brothers, including a CD cover and for single covers.

The Arthur Brothers began life as a recording project and quickly grew into an artistic alliance centred around brothers Matt and Danny Arthur and the producer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist J. C. Wright. Their music is inspired by a mutual obsession for inventive song-craft and a cross-generational love of classic albums with dramatic, bold and intriguing productions. Driven by a devotion to the recording process and a passionate desire to make a record full of mystery, melody, diversity and depth - the Arthurs and Wright, along with a coterie of talented contributors have been on a long and challenging creative expedition which, after an eclectic batch of single releases, has culminated in the recent release of their debut album Nine. Classic, contemporary and timeless, this majestic sonic proclamation demonstrates that there are no boundaries in terms of what to expect from this London based alliance.
"Nine songs. Nine years. Nine black holes. Each one a journey into the unknown.  Nine soundtracks to nine concepts. Soaring peaks and dark canyons. Blazing light and deep space. A manifesto. An undertaking of magnitude, of ambition, with all the pain and glory that comes with such a preposterous quest. A labour of love. An expedition. An exploration of sound launched from a basecamp fuelled with classic ideals and mad ideas. Nine Summit climbs. Nine is The Arthur Brothers debut album."
Nine a concept album, with 6 singles being released ahead of it - the idea was for all the visuals to form one concept, united by the main album's theme. It can be vaguely defined as reflections on humanity's destiny and future, our loneliness in space (or not?), and a glimpse of hope in the dark. I have used an image of a gem, shiny mysterious object flying in space, in complete darkness, and various transformations happening to it - from being shattered into tiny pieces to meeting larger space bodies and finally filling the frame and becoming one shining essence, the light itself.
I've created hand-printed monotype textures with different shades of yellow, to create hand-crafted warm feeling that contrasted with black and cold vastness of space. I have also directed the photoshoot for the press shot and the band's online profiles - we anted to keep them as vague as possible, being lost in the fog, just hinting at the people behind the music.
