The Church

This object was made in response to a brief called “Book
to Building”. The aim was to explore how the grid/structure
of a book can be translated into a building. I picked the Bible.
The Bible is divided into the New and the Old Testaments,
containing 27 and 39 “books”. For the project I decided to
explore the “New Testament”. In the final outcome there
are 27 plates constructed into the shape of a cross. Each
represents a book from the New Testament. Each “step”
represents a chapters and the holes going downwards
represent the verses in each chapter. The centre cross is the
Gospel part and the other plates are also logically arranged.
By examining the sculpture you can discover which plate
stands for which part of the New Testament or compare
intensity throughout the book.
