The scene is set in an undisclosed location. Drinks are spilling and the sound of footsteps echo around the room as the block party continues into the night. There are speakers set up in the centre of the room. These speakers are left gritty, scratched, dented and tarnished as they’re moved from space to space, from block party to block party. The subwoofers are bouncing as the gritty space mirrors the sound pumping from the multiple speakers as the artwork and the sound slowly blend into one.
Mimicking the sound emerging from the speakers in the form of a makeshift DJ set, Lewis Swan creates imagery that culturally references specific moments in time such as the 40s/50s, 60s, 70s and 80s. This imagery is displayed upon posters scattered around the room left from the members of the public attending the block party. The posters are trampled on from the crowds dancing around the speakers, they’re coated in spilt alcohol overflowing from the bottles and cans being passed around and they’re torn from a clear sign of usage. These posters are used to advertise the night as well as showcase the imagery that culturally references the certain moments in time. Mimicking the sounds used within the makeshift DJ set, the culturally referenced images are also slapped upon the speakers and are instantly transformed and manipulated as the imagery collides and intertwines with the sound controlling the dance floor, pumping from the speakers. The sound starts to flood through every inch of the images, and a brand-new set of outcomes are born that combines a mixture of both the artwork and the use of sound.
The speakers and the artwork slowly but surely blend into one as the night goes on and a completely new set of outcomes are born. These new outcomes slowly seep into the components of the speakers and take complete control as eras of sound collide together and slowly sway the dance floor within the block party. At this exact moment, the sound begins to alter and a hectic atmosphere starts to form. The soft elegant 40s/50s red vocals slowly evolve into a vibrant blue and a unique green as the freestyle begins. The psychedelic 60s guitar riffs stun listeners as the vibrant tones leave its viewers in a trance. While the groovy 70s yellow baseline allows the rhythm to strive as the bass pops and starts to bleed into shades of purple, red and a majestic lilac. This calmly intertwines with the rebellious 80s drum pattern that throbs dark shades of purple, green and orange and becomes in sync with the footsteps of the crowd slowly starting to get heavier and heavier as the night goes on and on and on.
