The Design Museum App

  • Francesca Marziani
The brief: creating an app concept for the Design Museum of London, with the purpose of increasing value and visitor engagement with the exhibition content. To do so, once I had been provided all the digital content by the museum I was able to create a heightened user experience. I helped to create a curation-focused application designed for iPads and a user-friendly Content Management System, a computer application that allows the museum staff to create and modify digital content without requiring any external development work.
My role: as art director of the project, my  main duties involved the creation of wireframes and mock-ups, technological research, and user experience.
What is interesting: before creating the mock-ups, it was necessary to study the museum audience, define their personas and understand the user journey within the museum. Developing a project for a museum had its challenges as the aim was to enhance the experience on different levels, and with different technologies, keeping the focus of interest on the content of the exhibition.
To do so, it was important to maintain a certain balance between entertainment, design, and content.
