Since 2016, exciting plans have been developing about how to put the best of Erith’s past at the heart of its bright future. The Carnegie library, built in 1906, is one of the most important heritage buildings in Erith and The Exchange was set up specifically to save it and to develop a sustainable community-led future for it. Purchasable shares in The Exchange were available to raise £130,000 for the final phase of building works in The Old Library's renovation and to ensure The Exchange is an organisation truly for and owned by the community! Every share was pound for pound matched by Power to Change. The Community Shares campaign ran from February 2021 - May 2021 and in this period 453 community members invested in The Exchange and raised over £150,000 to save The Old Library building, own The Exchange and Invest in Erith's future.
