The Future of the Book

This project is based on my thesis and challenges the form of the book, by having it in a circle. It contains three layers of information, that you have to physically interact with, over time, in order to read. The circular form relates to objects and ideas of measuring time, and the quotes represent ideas of the past, present and future of the book. Ancient civilisations used circular sundials to tell time. As the sun moves across the sky, the shadow aligns with different hour-lines which are marked on the dial to indicate the time of day. In addition to their time-telling function, sundials are valued as decorative objects.
Books represent the moment in which they are made, they become a container of information fixed in time. Traditionally, books are read from beginning to end. In comparison to this, the circle doesn't contain a distinct beginning, middle or end, which means it can be read from any point.
