The Lost and The Remained - Open Call for Southeast Asian Artists

  • Duong Thuy Nguyen

In light of ESEA Heritage Month, artist-led collective An.OtherAsian invites Southeast Asian artists to explore the polarities of nostalgia and loss by presenting work at The Lost and The Remained, an exhibition at the Koppel Project Hive. The notion of heritage calls to mind multiple facets of one’s history: it can refer to a physical object or space, or an inherited culture, behaviour, or way of living. In any form, heritage is something that belongs to us — and the notion also encapsulates an origin from which we came into existence. The exhibition strives to bring new perspectives to the London art scene, and to encourage an understanding of Southeast Asian heritage by interrogating the link between culture, physical objects, and the unseen. Exploring non-aligned histories and geographies, the exhibition questions how heritage is constructed and developed through exchanges and collaborations. The Lost and The Remained considers the role creative practice plays in discovering one’s roots through entangled memories, friendships, families, and diasporic identities. This open call is intended for all artists living and working in the UK. All mediums (including performance art) are welcome. The chosen artists will exhibit work alongside members of the An.Other Asian as well as invited artists. Only completed works are eligible for submission. The selection, curated by An.Other Asian, will be on show at Koppel Hive Gallery from the 27th to the 30th of October. An.otherAsian is an artist-led collective currently run by Duong Thuy Nguyen, Rianti Gautama and Nikki Colet, Central Saints Martin MA students from various Southeast Asian countries. *The exhibition is organised by An.Other Asian, funded by Mekong Cultural Hub as a part of their Meeting Point 2022, and supported by The Koppel Project. Deadline: 10th October, 11:59 PM All work must be submitted through the online application form (link here) Please email us: an.other.asian.art@gmail.com if you have any questions.
