Creative Challenge: Arabic art and design can always seem very traditional, and whilst that's a beautiful homage to the detail, geometry and classic Arabesque designs we know and love today, there's a lack of being fun, experimental and pushing for a transition into modern, contemporary art with little rules, and more freedom of expression. The challenge is to design a limited edition series of cushions, which aims to break the mould of traditional Arabic art, calligraphy and lettering. Solution: I created a fun, expressive and contemporary set of illustrations that introduce colour, vibrancy and experimental approach to the Arabic language and Arabic art. The term ‘Pillow Talk’ has been developed to represent the intention of these cushions being a statement piece in a room, to spark a conversation and raise awareness. A limited number of these cushions are on sale here: https://www.freewebstore.org/the-pillow-talk-cause and a percentage of the proceeds will be donated to the charity Human Care Syria. The finished products were displayed at Reconnecting Arts exhibition - an exhibition showcasing emerging Middle Eastern Artists, and they were also invited to be displayed at Cause2Create's Exhibition. I was interviewed on BBC Radio London to talk about my project and the importance of using our Art to highlight awareness around global or local issues. https://www.peopleofprint.com/exhibition/the-pillow-talk-cause/ https://mlsn.myportfolio.com/pillow-talk-cause https://www.creative-conscience.org.uk/pillow-talk-cause-reconnecting-arts/ https://reconnectingarts.com/2017/08/31/thepillowtalkcause/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MApugYQ0Hi8
