Capturing the spirit of a grand ship and the energy of moving waves, I performed an unfolding routine to an intimate audience. Unveiling ambiguous shapes, collapsed buildings and flattened sails, I told a story of a vessel travelling between lands. Through the use of paper I echoed the trees and wooden body of the ship. The waves were motored by subtly placed pulling tabs. Shadows and lighting elevated flat levels of surface and the chaotic buildings cut bold angles into the sea. From the use of white and simple lines the audience were left to fill in the gaps. Although I was the one telling the story, I had provided a blank canvas open for interpretation. This project was inspired and performed at the chosen location ‘Wold of Boats’ located in Cardiff Bay.
