Through the Minds Eye

  • lauren thompson

2020-2021 In this series of surreal self-portraits, distortion is used to convey complex emotions and sensations which exist beyond the capabilities of the naked eye. These self-portraits imagine what it would be like to see through the mind's eye, deconstructing the persona and witnessing the psyche manifest itself. My exploration of the female gaze encompasses the emotions of the female into the external representation of the body. By re-claiming the female image, I strive to empower women to feel proud of the intrinsic relationship between mind and body.
