UK BlackTech Stock Photo Project

A collaboration with UKBlackTech, we shoot a series of images which would be used as stock photography featuring BAME individuals. The aim was to diversify the stock imagery offerings with more ethnic minorities using tech as there are very few on the stock imagery market. Shot at tech company Pivotal, the series included professionals as well as children and young adults. UKBlackTech is committed to raising the profile of BAME in the tech sector in order to inspire young people to pursue a career within it. Having spoken to a wide cross-section of young people, it is clear that they often don't see themselves in this sector. A simple but effective solution would be to shoot a series of images featuring BAME using tech. While there are images of BAME in tech in America, there is very little from Britain by a British audience and tends to be difficult to find.

The visual style for this shoot needed to be accessible but high quality with a natural but still polished look and feel. Taking on a lifestyle and reportage feel ensured the photography looked natural and realistic instead of forced and contrived. Natural light kept the photos looking clean and minimal without looking clinical, but avoiding the clichéd wooden "startup" aesthetic.
The photos have now been downloaded thousands of times and have been used on goverment websites.
