Under The Sea

“Under The Sea” is a collaborative project between paper set designer Annemarieke Kloosterhof and still life photographer Nick Dunne. The piece was made for World Ocean Day, depicting a tiny handcrafted ocean floor of paper coral reefs, handcut seaweed and recycled paper rocks, to celebrate the importance of our underwater world, its plants and its micro organisms. We experimented with special lighting techniques, mimicking the way sunlight reflects on the moving ocean waves and how it illuminates the marine world underneath. The three mirrors used as the base in the centre of the scene show only a small portion of coral reef remaining, with the vast open waters surrounding it reflecting how much we have yet to explore in those undiscovered ocean depths. The entire set was cut, glued and assembled by hand, and stands at only 15 cm tall. More info on: www.annemariekekloosterhof.com or on instagram: @annemarieke.kloosterhof
