Illustrations for the exhibition ¡Viva México! by The National Museums of World Culture. Illustrations for the exhibition ¡Viva México! at The Museum of World Culture (Världskulturmuseet) in Gothenburg. When doing this commission I got a lot of research material from the theme behind the exhibition and I complemented it with visual input from Mexican arts and crafts, both old and new. In LIFE, you can see Quetzalcoatl, and Tezcatlipoca, two gods involved in Aztec creation myths. The pattern on her dress, and the plants and flowers in the background, are inspired by several textiles. In DEATH, you can see Xolotl, and Huitzilopochtli, two gods involved in Aztec death and war myths. The pattern on the dress, and the plants and flowers in the background, are inspired by several textiles and Aztec codices. Since LIFE and DEATH are connected in Mexican traditions they wanted to emphasize this in the exhibition. The illustrations are mounted on vertical blinds in the exhibition so that the visitor can switch between LIFE and DEATH, The Illustrations were also combined with a muted color palette and used on a circular mat as a centerpiece in the exhibition.
